Arrange your lessons to fit your schedule.  Mornings before 10 a.m. or evenings after 6 p.m. are generally preferred to ensure quieter waters.

In Kansas City, the Shawnee Mission and Olathe lakes are calm quiet sites for lessons.

Fees for lessons vary but are typically $150 per person for a 90 minute lesson.  This involves meeting the instructor with boat at the lake, and initially learning on land and practicing on the dock.  Then the student will row on water in a double shell, with the instructor also in the boat.

For groups, special arrangements at reduced fees are possible.

Lessons are conducted with double rowing shells and initial approach can include time for yoga stretches by the lake.  A 90 minute lesson will provide you with the basics o rowing and should prepare you to row alone on your next outing.  Racing shells are available for more advanced lessons.

Rowing, like most sports, can be improved over a lifetime - through stroke effectiveness, etc.  But also like many sports, such as biking, swimming and skiing, rowing involves skills that can be remembered between outings and re-engaged at all ages.

Additional rowing lessons and rowing association membership can be arranged with the Kansas City Rowing Club, which is located in Kansas City, Missouri, on the Kansas River.  www.KCRowing.com

Rowing is gentle on the joints, providing relief to injured and mature joints but rowing can also be pursued in a very competitive manner if desired.  Indeed, the aerobic aspects of rowing provide peace and power.

Rowing is a sport that will change your life.

You won't know until you try!
